Models for schools of public health: A scoping review and synthesis of existing evidence.
To date, existing evidence regarding models (organisational, structural, managerial, administrational) for Schools of Public Health (SsPH) has not been systematically collected or synthesised (Evans, 2009, Sadana et al, 2007). This study aims to begin to fill that gap by using a combination of rapid review and scoping review techniques to retrieve and assess existing literature to identify potential and existing models, themes and issues and where possible highlight strengths and weaknesses.

The School of Public Health has a unique role in building the capacity of the Public Health System in the North East. The ‘Public Health System’ describes the way in which through working together, all the individuals and organisations that have the potential to play a role in creating the conditions for health, can maximise their impact to improve health and reduce inequalities in health for the population of the North East. These individuals and organisations include communities, businesses and employers, and the media, as well as the NHS, Local Authorities and all other parts of the Public Sector.
Warwick Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale in the North East: Final Report
The Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale measures well-being at a population or group level. It was developed through research at Warwick and Edinburgh Universities. The scale has recently been included in 3 Local Authority Residents’ Surveys in the North East region: North Tyneside, County Durham and Newcastle
This report assesses the findings from these surveys and also cross-references these findings with those from similar surveys undertaken in the North West of England and Scotland. This will help to provide some insight into the level of mental wellbeing in the North East region
Consultation recommendations and response from the Multi-disciplinary School of Public Health (North East).
A stakeholder event was held 14th February to review the Scally recommendations. A response from the School has been developed using the views expressed and signed off by the Head of School and Training Programme Director. Due to the number of responses received for this consultation at the local stakeholder event, this feedback reflects the specific questions asked by the Department of Health with regards to the Scally recommendations. T he comments made are on behalf of stakeholders and partners of the multidisciplinary School of Public Health. There were some more generic thoughts and concerns expressed on the day which are summarised first below.

North East Teaching Public Health Network Annual Report 2008-9
The North East Teaching Public Health Network is one of nine regional Teaching Public Health Networks set up by the Department of Health across England since 2006. Over the past year activities within the Network have focused on forging and maintaining partnerships with organisations and individuals involved at all levels of public health education, while at the same time aiming to deliver on strategic priorities set in December 2007. These include developing public health education through higher and further education, increasing the capacity and capability of public health educators, promoting healthy universities and colleges and growing the Network and improving communication.
North east public health workforce improvement Scoping exercise on capacity and capability to meet aims of Better Health, Fairer Health themes
To assess progress of the regional advisory groups with regard to workforce assessment and to identify barriers and opportunities to delivery, a series of interviews was undertaken with the theme leads during late 2008 Discussions were also held with representatives of Public Health Group and of NHS Education North East.
This report outlines the findings of the interviews and discussions and presents some recommendations for future progress around workforce development. Reference is also made to a recent review of mapping techniques for public health improvement workforce .
North East Teaching Public Health Network Annual Report 2007-8
The North East Teaching Public Health Network (NETPHN) is one of nine regional Teaching Public Health Networks (TPHNs) in England developed by the Department of Health.
The purpose of NETPHN is to bring together education providers with the public sector workforce and workforce planners to increase capacity to improve health in its wider sense.
