The School of Public Health commissioned Durham University to develop a leadership course for senior Public Health Staff in the North East. This is being led by Dr Catherine Hannaway.

The North East Leading Improvement for Health and Well-being Programme 2011 aims to respond to the challenging agenda by developing leaders with the necessary knowledge and skills to improve health and well-being.

Objectives

  • To support the delivery of the regional Health and Wellbeing Strategy through the alignment of improvement work to Better Health Fairer Health and the Strategic Health Authority Vision
  • To develop local leadership capacity for the improvement of health and well being
  • To further develop local leaders of whole system and quality improvement
  • To further develop effective local partnerships
  • To develop supportive ‘communities of practice’ amongst leaders of health and wellbeing.

A taught/facilitated leadership programme including:

  • 3 x 1day master-class workshops and 1x 2 day residential and leadership diagnostic - development and support tools (such as 360 degree feedback, Honey & Mumford Learning Styles)
  • Local support workshops for work-based quality improvement projects, aimed at equipping leaders with improvement methodologies skills. 2x 1 day improvement methodology workshops where participants are broken into smaller groups in 2 geographical locations
  • 1:1 coaching – 1 session per participant.
